Who has the most Google blocks?
Feb 19, 2004
As most of you probably know, companies like Google, Yahoo, and MSN have created their own Internet Explorer toolbars with added functionality. Besides integrated search, one of the most used features is blocking pop-ups, an overdue feature for Internet Explorer. My question to all of you is: How many pop-ups have you blocked? I recently rebuilt my machine, but I’m already up to 369 blocks. Mr. Keller has over 1,100. How many do you have?…more
Brian Keller's back in the blogging seat
Feb 12, 2004
It looks like Brian’s blogging again, and he has some fascinating gossip on Barbie and Ken’s breakup and the rumor that C# & J# are dating. I’m sure your asking yourself whether Brian is heavily medicated, and I can assure you that his medication dosage is in fact not heavy.
Holiday & New Year's recap
Jan 13, 2004
I realized I haven’t blogged for a while, and I needed to at least mention my geeky Christmas gifts. I traveled back east to DC for Christmas and had a great time there with friends and family, then me & the Mrs. celebrated New Year’s eve in New York at Spirit nightclub. Oddly enough, I saw someone who looked like Chris Anderson circa 3am in the VIP section, but my memory and vision were a bit hazy then, so I couldn’t confirm, and walking up to someone and asking “are you Chris Anderson?…more
Can a PC talk to a Mac in under two hours?
Dec 03, 2003
**Happy Thanksgiving everybody! ** Thanksgiving at my mom’s house in DC is a little bit non-traditional as guests don’t arrive until around 8pm, we don’t eat until close to 11pm, and we don’t stop partying until 2/3 AM. There were about 30 people at my mom’s house this year in D.C. which made it all the more fun. My mother’s 60th birthday also happened to fall on turkey day this year, and for a gift, I got her wireless speakers that plug into her PC so that she can listen to internet radio in the kitchen and bedroom.…more
Blogging For My Constituents
Nov 14, 2003
One of my most important constituents, the Mrs. says that I haven’t blogged about her enough. Goldfarb shares his wisdom that I can either spend time with her or blog about her. I agree, but occasionally I’ll find cool stuff that will help simplify her life (I complicate it a bit so anything that helps is a good thing). This sounds too cool to not share: Nail Color at the flick of a switch from the Scotsman…more
Back from Wedding/Honeymoon
Oct 15, 2003
I’m back from Bora Bora, and I’m missing it already. The honeymoon was amazing and I highly recommend Bora Bora and the Bora Bora Nui Spa and Resort to anyone considering a vacation in the south pacific. I’ll write more details on Bora Bora later :) The wedding went really well, and when I came back to the office I discovered it had been festively decorated with streamers from the ceiling and pictures from both the wedding and bachelor party (I’m being “carried” in one of them) thanks to Keller, but I plan to get him back soon enough [insert evil laugh].…more
Getting Married and going on my honeymoon
Sep 28, 2003
I got married yesterday, it was a total whirlwind but a total blast! I’ll write more later, but thank you to everyone who came out and I’ll be back in the blogosphere October 13th when I’m back from the honeymoon in Bora Bora. much love, -Dan
Coder or Cannibal?
Aug 05, 2003
I’m currently in sleep deprivation mode, which always reminds me of how Henry Rollins begins his spoken word Boxed Life tapes: [Henry Rollins screaming] “OPEN YOUR EYES! YOUR EYES, WIDE, YOU IDIOT!" [In a much calmer tone] “Me and the cab driver both slept the whole way to the airport." As I was leaving work yesterday (or early today, depending on your perspective) I noticed someone sleeping on the futon in the common area of our floor.…more
Me versus 520
Jul 25, 2003
I have bad luck driving into work lately, on Wednesday there was a truck that had engine problems on 520 (the bridge that connects Seattle to MSHQ and which already killed one of my computers) and my commute was about an hour. On the way home I didn’t have any problems, but coming in on Thursday morning 520 was backed up pretty bad from an accident involving a Mazda Miata and two other vehicles which made my commute over an hour!…more
Work hard, play hard
Jul 01, 2003
“Work hard, play hard” is my mantra (and the mantra of most people at MS), but it’s pretty damn exhausting after a while. I haven’t been able to blog since last week, and it’s simply because I’ve been busy all the time. This weekend, for example, I went back home to DC for a friend’s wedding, and didn’t go to sleep before 5am any day there, and every second I was awake I was busy.…more
