"Comical Ali" Captured?

[Note: Any political commentary, pro or con, has been removed] The Mirror is reporting that “Comical Ali” has been captured . He’s become quite the internet icon, on par with AllYourBase, Mahir, and even the HampterDance. The Iraqi Information Minister even has a best-of DVD and a fan site. You have to love the internet :)

While in a co-worker’s office discussing the merits (or lack therof) of the word “blog”, Googlism came up in conversation. Googlism searches Google and based on the results, creates a meta-description for who you are, when something took place, or what something is. For example, searching for “Brian Goldfarb” returns this gem “brian goldfarb is one of those young people who knows where the information is”. Searching for my name, I discover that: “dan fernandez is definitely marrying sexy star sheila ysrael at the end of this month”.…more
Cut the BS with Bullfighter

My favorite new piece of software is Bullfighter from Deloite Touche Consulting. It’s a Microsoft Word add-in (2000 or XP) which searches your documents for terms like “synergy”, “value proposition”, and “paradigm” that managers and consultants use to sound smarter. I tried this tool on one of our latest press releases and found six “BS” hits. Sweet! I only wish they had a web interface (or web service interface) where you could point to a URL and get a BS word count from a company’s “About” page or quarterly earnings.…more

The 2003 Webby Awards were announced recently. Let’s recap my picks for Reader’s Choice: Technical Achievement - I said Google, Winner: Google Services - NetFlix, Winner eBay Film - Metacritic, Winner: RottenTomatoes Net Art - Puppet Tool, Winner: Penny Arcade Print & Zines - The Onion, Winner: The Onion Two out of five a failing grade, but it’s all a popularity contest anyways :)
