Mar 07, 2006
I was trading emails with DJ Bolivia today and little did I notice that he released another great Music to Code By release, which will have a total of six releases. The new release is Vol 4 - “Partisan Scream Fest” (The Power of Blogs). "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" and why I love Family Guy
Feb 08, 2006
If you’re one of those people that get songs stuck in your head, don’t follow any of these links :) I love Family Guy. Its arguably my favorite TV show right now and its simply brilliant (The Daily Show with John Stewart is a very close second). On any given show, you’ll find references to old school TV hits, pop culture icons, and things out of left field that remind me of the Simpsons around season 2 & 3, but with a bit more edge.…more

Personal Rant: Fighting for TechEd Sessions and mitigation ideas
Feb 11, 2005
There was a lot of good sessions and fighting for too few spots TechEd this year. It was brutal, and I mean brutal. There were hundreds of recommendations, fewer total session spots then last year, a new security track, VSTS sessions, and a Business Applications (MS CRM) track. About 90% of all session recommendations were cut. Ouch! Bottom line, there are only two dedicated C# sessions this year. I tried, I really, really did.…more
TrailSkate
Feb 03, 2005
I have no time, not even for hockey. I’ve missed two games because of work and have yet to have a free weekend to heat mold my Mission Helium He950 skates. These things are so damn light and fast, they ought to compensate for my complete lack of dedication to working out or playing hockey. Assuming I can get them to fit right and that’s where the heat molding comes in.…more
Most complex data structure ever?
Jan 27, 2005
Reader Question: What’s the most complex data structure you’ve ever run into or had to program against? My personal one was the “Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization” (you can download it if you’re bored) which is a monster DTD that includes just about everything a real estate/mortgage or financial company could want. In any case, creating “fake” data [for a customer prototype using BizTalk] for this thing was tough, and showing how each different partner organization could use part of this data in their application as part of an orchestrated process was tougher.…more
Amusing job "requirements"
Jan 27, 2005
Edit: Our CRM team says this job posting doesn’t belong to them I got sent this recently from a Microsoft SDE position (Job ID: 124984) _….The candidate must have 4+ years of commercial development experience in following areas: .NET Framework, ASP.NET/ASP**,** Advanced Web Services, **WSE**, TSQL, **C#,** C++, SQL Server/database technologies, multithreading techniques, system software development (scalable and reliable), algorithms, and performance analysis…._ I’m not sure who writes these “requirements”, but when I read this I assume that must have skills really mean “must have".…more
Response to Mini-MSFT on cutting Microsoft sales force
Jan 12, 2005
Mini-Microsoft is a blog dedicated to reducing Microsoft employee headcount: “Let’s slim down Microsoft into a lean, mean, efficient customer pleasing profit making machine! Mini-Microsoft, Mini-Microsoft, lean-and-mean!" I wanted to give my personal view on some of the thoughts and ideas posted in the post: Mini-MSFT: Employee Growth Chart Quote:“I’d also be really interested if we have awful products that require a greater amount of support / effort to sell and market, especially considering what’s the comparable investment of that effort given the products’ profits (or lack there-of).…more
