MSDN Events - Coming to a city near you
May 01, 2006
At Maker Faire, I got to meet the local guys from SVC who came to help out at the booth, including Anand Iyer. Anand is part of the national Microsoft team (like Geoff and Rory) that does MSDN events and they have several upcoming events you should definitely check out. Anand’s got a full schedule of west coast events here including Vegas, Honolulu, and San Diego….shweet.
SIC Notes from Localization talk
Jul 14, 2005
The localization talk had three speakers for a one hour session that ran a bit over. Rough notes below Speaker #1 Claude Ostfeld He literally just read his slides and his slides had way too much textMe and an audience member disagree with the speaker on this one, but when he was asked, he said he meant for bulk purchases (200+ licenses) - Remote partners need to know they can sell - Treat resellers like key clients, be selective in choosing Treat a localized version as a brand new product…more
At the 15th annual Shareware Industry Conference
Jul 14, 2005
I’m way too busy at the Shareware Industry Conference, but here’s a quick brain dump. I met with John Lueders of ElmSoftware who created iDo 2005, some very cool looking and useful Wedding software. It’s got 5 stars by CNET. I can tell you that my wife, Angie, would have loved this software. We talked about adding some cool features based on things that I remember Angie complaining about and even expanding into creating a mobile version.…more

My Picks for TechEd 2005
Feb 11, 2005
The list of TechEd sessions for 2005 is now up! If you register now, you get a $300 discount Choosing sessions was absolutely brutal. That being said, there’s still a lot of content that C# developers would be interested in. Here are my picks for sessions and events: Developer Tools/.NET Framework * Visual C# Under the Covers: An In-Depth Look at C# 2.0 With Anders Hejlsberg giving the talk, the hardest part will be finding a seat :) * Visual C# 2005: IDE Tips and Tricks - Anson Horton * Visual Studio 2005: Debugging Smart Client Applications with Visual Studio 2005 - Scott Nonnenberg * Visual Studio 2005 Team System: Using Visual Studio 2005 Team System to Support Your Agile Processes They should just change the session name to Agility with VSTS.…more
Visual Studio 2005 Community Integration FAQ
Nov 16, 2004
In the Visual Studio Connections keynote, I demonstrated the new features for finding and sharing content using Visual Studio 2005. In the demo, I showed how a developer can open up C# Express (or just about any VS 2005 product), click File New Project…Online Template…search for community content and download them to their machine. I won’t spend time going through everything I showed at VS Connections, I’ll save that for another blog post, but I wanted to quickly discuss the community features showed in the demo in a FAQ format, based on the questions I’ve received so far.…more
Connections in Vegas
Nov 09, 2004
I’m in Vegas this week for Connections. Connections is a 3-part conference covering ASP.NET, Visual Studio, and SQL Server. I did the demo keynote for Marie Huwe, our fearless leader, and a session on language and IDE enhancements. I’m happy to be done with sessions. All the usual suspects are here, Juval Lowy and Carl Franklin, the conference chairs always get good speakers. Scott Guthrie, Rob Howard, Julie Lerman, Tom Rizzo, Goldfarb, Prashant, Mark Michaelis, Bill Evjen, Doug Seven, Ari Bixhorn, and even Rory.…more

How To Make the May Community Tech Preview crash badly
Jul 06, 2004
I’m back from TechEd Europe where I ran into a case of the angry demo gods during my C# IDE Enhancements sessions. Joe gave this session in San Diego and did a great job so I had my work cut out to match his greatness. It’s always great to find bad product bugs during a talk, it can only make you stronger for your next talk :) Setup for demo failure…more
